I guess you could. But wouldn't  your project be harmful to Apple?

It would,  the main reason why apple is still around is because they got their OS to kick ass.  Unfortunately it only runs on macs.  Now i like macs, in fact I own one.   But I know a lot of people who can't afford them and would really benefit from having OS ten on a PC.

SO what we need to do, is get Darwin like linux. You could make all kinds of GUI's for it but it would run everything that OS ten could, but be able to run on most kinds of hardware like Linux.

Your sort of right lauk.  Maybe we should just get better windows app compatibility for Linux.

THat would be a much better approach.

the problem with that is it will always be catching up.  By the time WINE has full on Windows XP support.  Longhorn will come out.  While basically the same when it comes to applications, there will be differences that will mess WINE up.  And since MS documents their OS so badly.  It will be hard to catch up.

besides, unless Wine is running on a better display layer, it could never fully implement Longhorn APIs, as it supports a next-gen compositing layer and X11 SUX

This isn't going to kill Apple, they are as much about hardware as they are software
