Title: Hey, guess what I'm doing!
Post by: creedon on 4 August 2002, 01:32
Right this very second I'm listening to an MP3 of Jethro Tull's "Bouree" and I'll be listening to Jimi Hendrix and the Allman Brothers band and Frank Zappa (my favorite!) and the Doors and ALL KINDS of music; I spent about 15 minutes configuring a few things, and now, when I'm crusin'the net with Mozilla 1.01, I can listen to some decent music. GOD, I LOVE DEBIAN!!!!!!!  :D    :D    :D    :D   :

that sounds top class! i just got some good live doors stuff and some pink floyd live stuff (really bad recordings from when syd barrett was still the genius of the band) and a lot of led zep mp3s at 32kbps (why do they in particular seem to have a lot of live mp3s kicking about at 32kbps? including a fab version of moby dick with excellent drum solo lasting a very long time. Live hendrix stuff as well although it's less likely to be something that you (one) doesn't already have. Fab and groovy. I'm always on the lookout for Amon Duul II mp3s as well. Oh yes, and i got some excellent trax off of the rolling stones rock n roll circus the other day too! the jethro tull track on that is great!

My most crowning glory though is finding a website recently that has literally 4 Gb of unreleased smashing pumpkins stuff available for free download!!!

anyway enough of this... i'm off to listen to some music.......

This is just the first step in my master plan- I have a 233MMX pentium box that's going to be my music server.  I've got upwards of 750 albums on various mediums that I plan on putting on Hard disc; it"s my contention that the computer has matured to the point of being completely capable as a home entertainment component.  Eventually, I won't need any CD's, or cassettes, or ant=y other medium.
BTW: now I'm listening to Duane Allman and Boz Skaggs doing a tune called "Loan me a dime";  This is SO FUCKING COOL!!!!!

I'm fairly fortunate, my Pentium 233 has one of the last generation socket 7 m'boards; an FIC VA-503+.  It supports UDMA-66, PC-133 RAM, up to 512 Mb.  Without flashing the BIOS, I can upgrade to an AMD K-6 450 Mhz processor.  Without a RAID card, I've had 3 IDE hard drives running.  It's an AT-style board, but I've got an AT case that'll allow up to 6 H.D.'s internally, and2 more in the external 3-1/2 bays- that's not even counting the 5-1/4" bays (4).  Since it'll be a server, I won't be dong much upgrading, once the thing's up and running.

What about listening to some untalented(nah) modern stuff like Eminem, Limp Bizkit etc.  ;)

Ok can you give me several 60's or 70's songs(names, not .mp3s) that ummm rock? Like Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven or Jethro Tull's Too young to die were cool. Whereas something like Black Dog didn't rock me as much.

re; Fleetwood Mac pre-disco days.  I've got a CD that was given to me by a radio station that has a SHITHOUSE of early John Mayall collaborations; there's 4 or 5 tunes with Peter Green, that guy was great!!  I ran across an MP3 of the original version of "Black Magic Woman"  (no, Carlos Santana DIDN'T write it, Peter Green did!)- I like it better than Santana's version.
'60's Kick-ass bands : Ten Years After; Mountain; The Yardbirds; The Kinks; Bluesbreakers: Blind Faith; Frijid Pink; Canned Heat and, if you've gotta have LOUD; The WHO!!!

i will go search the fucking web too, but what is a good command line downloader music program thingy for Linux that will run through a proxy server??

I have Mandrake 6.0 Secure Server Edition setup as only a seti@home cruncher and it would probly be a good idea to use it to play/dl/burn(?) music with too.
In case your wonder'n it'll be hooked up to:
a computer subwoofer and two(maybe 4) computer satellite speakers, a 250 watt stereo hooked up to twelve speakers (i might hook up to 4 more), and maybe even my Bass amp.

im thinking about going either 5.1 or 6.1. by anychance is the 6.1 compatible with 5.1. ill probably go with 5.1 surround sound in my roum. i just bought a set of 200watt panasonic speakers from a pawn shop, so i would have enough to do suron now.

well... my stereo: amp/reciever, tuner, nother tuner, dual tape deck, 14 speakers cost me a total of... 60 Canadian dollars (pawn shop). Whats the catch? well the left channel is kinda fuzzy so it doesnt have stereo sound only mono   :(

oh yeah, all my speakers are under 40 watts  :(

i only have 6 speakers, but the great thing is, is that my shelftop system thats powering this all, is bi-amped. and about 70% of the systems power goes to subwoofers built into the speakers that came with it. i was thinking about picknig up a set of 600-1000 watt subs, and maybe a cheap amp. and using the low part of the speaker out on my stereo into the cheap amp to the subs. not only could i piss my parents off with that, the whole fucking neighborhood would want me gone.

My home system: Harmon-Kardon AVR-70 receiver, Apex A-600 DVD player, Cerwin Vega D-100 main speakers, Polk CS-150 center speaker, Cerwin-vega surrounds, Mission/Cerwin-Vega 200 WPC servo Subwoofer.  Soon to be driven with the above-mentioned audio server.

well, if you only took out the surround on the speaker that is blown, you can buy a repair kit for them, or you can go support your local pawn shop, there was a very nice set of peavy's in there for 375, and i think i might have been able to get the price down a bit. but i have things that need to spend 300 on like a new monitor, my previuosly mentiouned upgrade, car insuriance/*bastards*/
