Title: "Fantastic webdesign services"
Post by: xyle_one on 11 October 2002, 22:57
OMFG, check out this company. they offer webhosting and web design. ill cut to the chase, they suck ass.
"Fantastic Webdesign Services" (http://www.nvwebdesign.com/design.htm)
They use frontpage. They suck at graphic design. They use clipart. The worst part is, they actually have clients.

Their fucking site sucks ass...I would never pay someone to design my site if their site sucks as well. It's a bad impression on people.

i always thought that http://www.beaufortweb.co.uk/ (http://www.beaufortweb.co.uk/) was incredibly good at not providing good web design! look at their site. they provide free web based email, but how do you login? also, click on a few of the example sites that they have done...

Disgusting. horrible sites that make me want to puke. But i guess i can understand. I am new to web design and my pages arent that good, but i know good design when i see it (at least what i think is good design). I think they should go back to design 101.
color theory would be good. and general page layout. and do not charge $40 for ONE clipart image. fuck the clip art. and goddamn broken links on a webdesigners own webpage. that at least "fills me with confidence of their superior administration skills in maintaining my site". fu@k that. rant over.

It has "Windows Downloads."
Title: "Fantastic webdesign services"
Post by: rtgwbmsr on 12 October 2002, 07:31
It's a downloads website. I'm not biased against Windows, I just don't use it because it is an inferior product when compared to alternatives. By offering downloads for Windows I'm not supporting it and I'm not against it either.

I do plan on mirroring distros in the future, when I buy my new server (less than 1 month)

I also plan to offer Palm OS but not PocketPC downloads. Cuz when it comes to that, PPC SUCKS SO FUCKING BAD, I HAVE TO BE BIASED AGAINST IT.

There is a lot of empty space when i scroll down. I would also adjust the tables to scale so you dont have to scroll left or right. Its no problem on my machine, I have a high screen resolution. But for somebody running 800x600 or 1024x768 it might be hard to see the whole page. Other than that, i like it. its simple, to the point. But i am not the one to judge other peoples web pages (except of course nvwebdesign.com). this is my second web page (http://www.sederquistavery.com) . I guess before i start ranting about other peoples design (nvwebdesign) I should see where I stand as a designer. I could use the feedback. The bosses love the design, but as the artist, I hate it. So, feel free to bitch and complain about mine as well.

Yours is pretty nice!

The empty space is for when I start putting stuff there   (http://smile.gif)

Site site fits in any browser at full screen (or maximized on a Mac...sightly less room) at 1024x768. Only slight scrolling is needed on 800x600 (Which most gamers don't even use).

Have a look at gilpinsgarage.cjb.net in Mozilla and then IE... My design skills are Open Orientated, but  it looks kick ass on Mozilla/Phoenix which kicks ass too.

funny, i opened your site in IE, then i was slammed with pop-up windows. haha, but in mozilla, not a one popped up. The buttons, "Welcome", "But How?", etc.. have a border drawn around them in mozilla, in IE they dont. wierd. cool that you wrote it in Mozilla Composer.  I think ill give it a try.

something that isn touted enough is that tables should be given a width of something% instead of just a number in pixels. example, <table width="90%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> will display fine in all sizes of screen, but <table width="986" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> will only display well on screens of 1024 pixels across and upwards. Most if not all wysiwygs (i include openoffice.org, dreamweaver and mozilla composer) do the pixels by default, not the percentages.

Just a thought. I like sites to be as compatible with as many different setups as possible.

when it's done, it's supposed to be a humor sites targeted at the following audience:

Me.
People like me.
People who are like people who are like me.

It's going to be a disaster. Oh well!

Don't use big pictures of lines. Make them 1px wide, then make tables and predefine them to be 100% wide, and the same heigh as the lines. Then makes the image the BG, and it will work better (and no scrollbars). Do the reverse for the lines that go up and down.

www.vampyre.tk (http://www.vampyre.tk)
www.the-abyss.tk (http://www.the-abyss.tk)
what do we think of the design (other than the two broken links (actually there are 3 or 4, but 2-3 of them go to an error page)).
I really must work on my messageboard theme.
