I asked him about connecting my Laptop on the network in case my cable modem is down during my VNC presentation (i told him before hand that both machines run Linux) and he goes.
"YOU HAVE TO INSTALL AN ANTIVIRUS JUST TO BE SURE"....bla bla bla bla " I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT LINUX".
Here is what I think. Even if you want to Run MS products only, a SERIOUS Admin should/MUST have experience with as many platforms as possible. Am I right, or am I right?
He said yes on the presentation shit BUT still What a masterpiece of a FUCKTARD.

They SHOULD but most DON'T.
If it helps, my school admin is a fucktard too. I edited the privledges on the server and made him every type of user. It took him WEEKS to figure it out.

Dude at my school was trying to fix a mouse problem, when I came in he said it wouldnt double click so I said maybe the mouse click speed is turned all the way up, he just ignored me and just kept doing his own thing till finally he got pissed and said "did someone install a policy on here" which kinda made him look stupid since it was win98 that was running, he finally gave up on it and I sat down and went to the mouse settings and turned the speed down.

My teacher sent me to the admin people place thingie because they didn't understand how people were "net send"ing people around the network.
I feel so dirty; I told a friend how to do it, and now everyone knows. It's actually pretty annoying. Oh well. So yes, our admins are morons too.
-
Quirk, check your PM.
-
net sending is fun. Especially when the message pops up on EVERY computer in the Elementary, Jr. High, and High School. They should learn to disable it. Until then... I can have a lot of fun :D
-
I was going to tell them but. . . But I didn't. Teehee.
-
Antiviurus??? He really doesn't know _anything_ about linux..
How in the world can you become a sysadmin without knowing UNIX? Maybe he was an MSCE (http://tongue.gif)
-
I'm kinda at the point where I don't care if other people switch to Linux (cuz they deserve windows)
But I get pissed off when assholes like bill gates, and assholes in politics want to fuck with GPL.
I want to be free to use Linux forever. In peace.
But ppl keep wanting to fuck with GPL!!!!!

Over at my college my ICT (Information Communication Technology) teacher has worked with UNIX and its his preferred platform. The Computer Tech guy i have met sounds like he is russian or something but he knows full well about linux.
When i was in my Java class i needed the SDK for winME on my laptop, he downloaded it for me off the network burned it to cd for me and my class. But the guy is so nice he even went back to Sun's website to get me the linux SDK as well because windows wasn't liking the SDK at first. He turns round and say something like "you should use linux for the SDK it is easier". At the time i was using Lycoris on my desktop and considering purchasing Suse so i asked for it. BOOM 2 minutes later he gives me the SDK!
Back to my ICT teacher, we were discussing how the college implements its hardware and software cycles and all the machines on the network run NT4 with Novell client but they just got Office XP, thats about 200 copies btw. The pc's are celeron 400's with 64MB's of RAM. Can we say "snail pace"?
I have OpenOffice on my laptop and wanted to show him how close it was to XP, he knew about openoffice but had never seen it. Anyway i showed him it and he liked it so much he said he would speak to people higher than him about considering it and a cost saving item against Office XP.
Anyway, bottom line, the guys at my college are well educated and seem to know their shit!
P.S. If anybody fancies helping me on installing the linux SDK on Suse it would be helpful since i still havn't been able to do it!

What file did you get, the RPM or the "bin" file? If you got the RPM use the "rpm" command. If you got the bin file, execute it (may have to "chmod +x *.bin" first).

it's kind of scary seeing people administrate windows networks.
at my last work, the network was MacOS, and quickly changing to OSX for servers, and at my current work, it's windows 2000 for clients and servers alike. Pretty scary, the official line appears to be 'we don't really know...'

Hmmm that's interesting, so MOST admins in the corporate and non-corporate world are actually horribly incompetent at their job? Technically that would mean that any person who feels he is not incompentent and hits the books big time(the computer books) should have a big advantage. :D

well thats nothing my network admin for my school he usually gives me spare parts for computers hard drives, ram, cd-drives, network cards, those are the usuall so he was bragging about getting his new 1000$ dvd-burner. the day he got it he left his office for a little while so I ran over to his machine swapped it out with an old dvd-rom drive. later that day i went over to his box-o-junk and pretended to grab it out of there "hey Mr. D do you care if I have this old dvd-rom" "ohh yeah sure go ahead it must be broke or something though so it might need some repairs" "ok whatever thanks man" the next week he was talking to me about something or other "hey you know that dvd burner i got, they must have screwed up at the factory and sent me a dvd-rom" "ohh that sucks I would be for calling them up"
the sad part is they replaced it!!
but still what a moron

Heh, they disabled running DOS and the little "run" command, but they didn't disable batch files. Imagine my delight when I found out I can do this:
net send /domain sbs1 Message-to-all-comps
-
to disable net send on a host you just turn of the messaging subsystem.
I work with the Information Systems group at my company and most of the people are idiots.
I send problem tickets to someones queue and they just ignore it...sigh!
The other day I sent a solution I made to the helpdesk...they asked me where I got it from....huh!!!!
I got the solution FROM BY BRAIN, IT's CALLED THINKING.

At the high school I go to, there are people that actually know what they're doing (I've got root access to one of the FreeBSD servers, hehe) and have got FreeBSD servers. Only problem is that they couldn't figure out how to replace their Novell servers with Samba, and I couldn't figure it out either. Also the teacher there burned me Debian and FreeBSD before I had a CD-Writer and gave me a free 33.6k ISA hardware-controller modem.
-
They also have a very silly six letter password for the administrator accounts. I would say it, but at the risk of them seeing this, I won't. (http://smile.gif)
-
Is it "secret"?
-
LOL. Probably.
Our admins had "zorro" before the whole fucking school found out...those were the days (http://smile.gif)
