I can honestly say I (or my parents) have never bought MS software.  Other than recovery discs that come with a new computer.

I burnt it from a friend, it wasnt worth the price of 10 cents i paid for the 2 blank CDs.  Laggy as hell and a horrible example of a RPG.

I could never get into it.  Any Final Fantasy blows it out of the water hands down.  Morrowind also kicks its ass, althought that gets fairly boring after a while.

It was a bit laggy, but looked good considering the age of my PC. The siegelets and mods add a bit of fun to it. Lighsabers and what not.  (http://smile.gif)

Can't stand turn based fighting. FF is perdy though.

I'd like to point out that if you've ever bought a computer with Windows preloaded on it then you are definitely paying Microsoft.

If you put it that way, then yes. Just about every person in these forums has bought Microsoft products willingly or not. I thought that the guy who posted this topic, was talking about extra M$ software.

when i bought the laptop it came with windows ME.
when i bought the desktop it had winME installed on it, but i didn't get any install media and there was no way the cost of windows was included in the desktop's price at the cost i got it, so i suspect i've only paid for windows once. of course the first thing i did with that desktop was wipe windows.

i have got illegal copies of windows 98, windows 2000, office 97 and office 2000 but i don't have those installed anywhere and actually i don't even know where they are (so maybe i don't have them).
Oh yes! also i bought a copy of windows 3.11 and MSDOS 6.22 second hand for

I got msdos6.22 and windows 95 floppy edition as presents. I also have a legitimate (but not payed for) copy of XP that came with a computer that never had it installed - the computer came with both 2k and xp so they chose 2k.  (http://tongue.gif)

i have never bought any microsoft product. My computer didnt come with an OS, in fact i dont think it came with a hard drive (i bought most the pieces and put it together myself). I havent bought much software myself at all. The last two pieces of software i bought came with books, Linux Max Security (comes with many apps) and C++ for Linux (comes with compilers and stuff on CD)

Yea im in m0rs position, build my own. Say mac people? Can you build a mac as easy as a PC? didnt think so.

Of cource PC's really suck, because of there brand diversity, theres nothing worse then 6 million brands of broken hardware because they have to make it really cheap to compete.

Nope,

Never payed for a piece of M$ shit.  Then again, I'm running Win2k Adv. Server; so u do the math ;)

It's really not worth my money.  Come to think about it, I don't think I have ever seen a shrink wrapped copy of windoze.

i had the pleasure of throwing almost two dozen Compaq OEM unopened copies of windows xp and 2000 in  the bin the other day. sadly it was only because the windows 20000 at work here gets installed via the network so they don't need the install media  :(

i have never had a computer work as flawlessly as my mac. so i really dont care to build my own, it already works great. i do like the ability to build a pc from cheap parts, but thats the problem, they are cheap parts. now, i could spend the money and get quality parts, but i would spend just as much money on a mac. so why bother?

I had (or my mother) bought Microsoft Office XP "for Students and Teachers" other than that no. Works good if didn't crash so often. Other than that none. But if you REALLY want one - then just get it of KaZaA - FREE! That's the way to show Microsoft some Respect!!!!!!!

That's even worse and eventhough it looks like a paradox, you're helping M$ spread! Use OpenOffice instead!

Brilliant idea. That shows some real smarts.

First off what you profess is illegal. Do I care yes, because due to stupid and pointless acts like this the RIAA and other fasict type groups can leverage support for their stupid control freak ideas, aimed at the removal of MY freedoms, because the people they represent loose money because of the jerkoffs and pricks that use Kazaa and other bullshit, that is totally innecessary.

Second. This idea perpetuates the monopoly of M$. Because some stupid twats decide to download M$ Windows XP, or M$ office they keep people in their  relentless and unnecessary upgrade cycle. You download it, and then produce files with it, and then someone else thinks they have to use it, and often do because of the closed source proprietary nature of the software, and buy a copy. There is no reason I can see for using M$ software.

Pirating it does not solve the problem and anyone who advocates it is a supporter of M$. There are many threads already raised on this topic. There is no reason to use M$ and no reason at all to pirate their inferior software.

i put it in for like 2 seconds. from the center of the CD, you can see an electric charge (i guess) spiral to the edge of the cd. when its done. the cd is fooked up, but looks very  very cool. it leaves this crazy looking spider webbed effect all over the disc. you should try it
after you see the "light" turn the microwave off. i am scared to leave it in any longer than that.

I confess... I bought Win 98 SE full OEM from ebay after I assembled my first computer from scratch. Why? A few reasons.

1) Wife had a Pentium 100 Packard Hell with Win 95 pre-installed. Buggy piece of shit. Wanted to upgrade. She's not computer literate, and is familiar with the interface. So, I put 98 there, and it does run better.

2) On my new screaming AMD 1900+, I want to play video games (occasionally) that are not available for my PS2.

3) My screamer has Linux on a 2nd partition. But had problems installing, namely kernel panic! Linux didn't like the Highpoint RAID controller on my mobo. Now, It didn't come right out and say this. After searching on googlegroups, I found an answer. Disable the controller in the BIOS. I tried, and it worked. Then my floppy wasn't recognized. Another search revealed that I needed to modify LILO. Then it worked perfectly. Point being... I couldn't access the web on my new machine directly (no modem) or indirectly through LAN without running some flavor of WIN. Linux runs horribly slow (with GUI which is how I prefer to surf the web) on the Packard Hell, whose modem isn't compatible with Linux anyway.

Moral of the story, sometimes it is, echh... "convenient" to run M$, even if it's only temporary. I haven't (nor do I plan to) purchase anymore MShit. I use the 602 office suite, and plan to move to open office. I've also recently learned TEX/LATEX, and LOVE IT. UBER-COOL.

As for internet, I have DSL now, and another Packard Bell that I just dropped two NIC's into, and am very soon going to convert to a Linux Router for my little LAN.

At least get Windows 2000 or XP, they are much better with games, XP has a better graphics inteface. Not that I use either, I use RH 8.0, but when I have a copy of Dropline Gnome, i will be a slackass once again.

I've never bought M$ software, but they probably got a few pounds of me from the two controllers and two games I bought for my Xblock that were new (secondhand everything else).

I was given a legit copy of Win 2K which I use, and my computer came with WinMe, GRR!

To the person that said it's not necessary to use M$'s shitty software. Well, in theory yes, but I need to use various multimedia progs and I can't afford to upgrade and maintaain a Mac, so I have to use a PC, and I can't run PhotoShop and Flash on BeOS now can I?
Piracy can sometimes be the only anti-M$ statement a person can make in certain situations. I've had to use PowerPoint at uni, but since there is no proper alternative that fully supports PowerPoint files, piracy kept me away from actually buying the damn thing, well, that and the fact that it's shit and not worth my money anyway.

lets see here: NO

almost every MS program/pOS that i have is burned:
MS-DOS (any version): downloaded and put on floppies
Windows 1.01: downloaded and put on floppies
Windows 3.1: downloaded and put on floppies
Windows 3.11: downloaded and put on floppies
Windows 95: downloaded and put iso on cd
Windows 98 (2 copies): never gave back to friend,                      came with computer
Windows 98SE: came with computer
Windows ME: downloaded and put iso on cd
Windows 2000: downloaded and put iso on cd
MS Office 97: download and put iso on cd
MS Office 2000: download and put iso on cd
MS Flight Sim 2002: won at a contest friend put me in

well....i think thats it...as you can see, M$ is out a few thousand, but i doubt they care.

By the way, all of this was done pre-linux and i dont even know why i have all these pOSs.  Now all of my computers are pure linux! yay for me!
so to answer the question: Have you ever bought MS software?...odviously NO!!

let me add that this computer was purchased second and so i didnt even pay for 98 or 98se

Aside from Windows ME on my computer when I got it, I have never and will never buy a software product from Microsoft.  If I REALLY need something, I'll just burn it or something.  Nothing MS ever produced is worth what they charge for it, and all it is is crap.  Linux (or any alternative) should be more advertised and more people should use it.  Whine-doze 2000 is a huge improvement from ME though. Thank God for that.
