ok I just wanted to ask if there are any free html editors, other than mozilla composer available for the mac Idd be gratefull. If there is nothing free for mac than I'm willing to pay up to 30 pounds via paypal but as a starving student Idd prefer the free option.
wysiwyg is a must

TextEdit
you don't need WYSIWYG. html apps like that are overfuckingrated
real men hand code and make badass super-streamlined code that's faster than a record exec heading to the bank

How about downloading the Dreamweaver trial? You'll get to use it for thirty days--for free.
-
Or I got it for free with Limewire, but I'm too lazy to learn how to use it.

Oddly enough they both have the same number of validation errors. And that's for about all the HTML specifications.

well look at calumsmusic.netfirms.com compared with polytheism.org.uk or orkney.cjb.net - (and look at the html code too) ok neither is perfect but the first was done in dreamweaver and the second by hand (although i have cleaned up the former a bit by hand since then).
i recommend using a text editor. maybe emacs can be compiled with gcc on MacOSX, don't know...
if you really need wysiwyg, openoffice.org is available for MacOSX running XWindows.
how about vim:
http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/#vim (http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/#vim)
or nedit:
http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/#nedit (http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/#nedit)
vim's a text based editor, i think it is colour coded text for various tags etc. nedit is a notepad like editor for XWindows (this is the MacOSX jaguar version) and i think it's colour coded too.
I've used all four of these things, but only under linux, or mswindows/caldera dr-dos, not macOSX, so your mileage may vary! ;)

ok thanks for all of the help But I just bought a used copy of dreamweaver mx on ebay it was quite cheap at 20 pounds I instaled it and it works like one hell of a dream.
The problem now is what the fuck has happend to open office.org you can go to their website and see that It is not the usual page. Also another thing i'dd like to point out is that neooffice.org is working fine I downloaded the office software and I did not even have to use x11 to install it you know this is all part of a pilot scheme to have open office on the mac.
but from what I can tell open office has been srewed by some basturd ie billy boy

Be gentle please. Its not done, and is very sloppy :(

Looks nice, but it's a very rigid layout. Appears as a little box on high res monitors.

No, the point is they are both shitty and I suck.

:( i know. However, i will have to deal with it in order to maintain that style.

If you look around on the Mac OS X downloads page (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/) you can find plenty of such editors. I prefer editing pages with BBEdit Lite (I know they stopped developing it, but it still works and I'm too cheap to get the full version). I also have the following meta data in all of my pages: <META HTTP-EQUIV="generator" CONTENT="Every damn bit of this site was coded by me, WYSIWYG editors can kiss my ass.">

gods of fire and water! i was about to fire off a shocked response saying this was illegal, however look at the EULA for Macromedia MX (http://www.macromedia.com/software/eula/tools/), in particular this bit:
quote:
Other than with respect to a Trial Version or a Not For Resale Version of the Software, you may permanently transfer all of your rights under this EULA only as part of a sale or transfer, provided you retain no copies
so my instinct was wrong! you can indeed legally buy an original of dreamweaver so long as no installations survive from that same disk. I suppose my expectations are biased by the EULAs (http://belg88.com/faqman/index.php?op=view&t=75) of a certain other comany's software...
i stil recommend using an open source program such as open office, if not for ideological reasons, how about the fast development cycle and the guarantee that the program will continue to be developedno matter what, not to mention the cost...
