Checkout the outlandish bull on this site about what Palladium does, is etc.
More Bull! (http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/longhorn.asp)

Bullshit!!!
About the Longhorn stuff:
It sounds like they are trying to copy Macs again, and where they are "original", it's a re-hash of an earlier faliure.
Prime example: The "dock based" interface. How long has the Mac OS been using this interface? Apple pretty much got it right in OS X (Earlier, and more basic iterations in the OS 8 and 9 "control strip").
And about the Palladium stuff:
Microsoft themselves claim that Palladium itself cannot do anything, and that other applications have to be written specifically for Palladium to take advantage of it. Basically, on it's own, it's useless.
-
I don't know what to say! I'm dumbfounded and outraged at the same time  ! What are they gonna think of next? Those folks in Redmond have apparently forgotten about the meaning of the word "Ethics"!

A: As I first revealed, the name wasn't chosen randomly. Remember that Windows XP was code-named Whistler and the next major version of Windows is code-named Blackcomb. Both of these names come from ski areas in British Columbia, close to Microsoft's headquarters. At the foot of Whistler Mountain, there is a saloon named Longhorn that serves the local skiing population. So if you're ever in the area and want to take in some local color, Longhorn is a nice stop

So that means that is something else...oh say...Linux...isn't written for it, it can just bypass it?
-
And they are also telling you they are doing all this R&D and implementing hardware that you will never use, but you surely will pay for it. I think we should petition Intel/AMD that we don't want to pay for shit we're not going to use.

[quot]# Longhorn will include integrated DVD+R and DVD+RW DVD burning capabilities. Digital media enthusiasts will be able to copy video from a digital camcorder directly to DVD+R, bypassing the system's hard drive entirely, if desired[/quote]
are we all supposed to become rich suudenly? dont DVD burners cost ever 1000 dollars?

Dated Desktop metaphore in OS X????
Ummm... what the fuck!!!!
At least we have a goddam metaphor, unlike that hodgepodge of inconsistant crap they dare call a GUI.
Fuck you M$! Your just peeved because you have been unable to make something half as usable as OSX!!!
I hope this crap makes you fall flat on your face and shit yourself!!!!!
I HATE MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!
-
Ok, now that I have calmed down, it occured to me, that last time M$ tried to "redefine" the desktop metaphore they made BOB, so I guess there really isnt much to worry about :D

# The Longhorn Start Menu will likely take on the form of the Task Panes from Office XP and occupy a good percentage of the right- or left-most portion of the Longhorn desktop.
Windowmaker ripoff!

* Palladium will tell you who you're dealing with online, and what they're doing. It will uniquely identify you to your PC and can limit what arrives (and runs on) that computer. Information that comes in from the Internet will be verified before you can access it.
Gee, you'd want people too know.
quote:
# Palladium stops viruses and worms. The system won't run unauthorized programs, preventing viruses from trashing your system.
Why not just not give them accsess too the MBR I/O CALLS and stuff like that... wait theres Linux!
quote:
* Palladium controls information after it's sent from your PC. Using Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology, Palladium can be used to securely distribute music, movies, and other intellectual property securely over the Internet. Movie studios and the recording industry could use this technology to let their customers exercise their fair use rights to copy audio CDs and movies, for example. "It's a funny thing," says Bill Gates. "We came at this thinking about music, but then we realized that e-mail and documents were far more interesting domains." Gates says that Palladium could ensure that email designated as private could not be forwarded or copied to other people, for example. Or, the Newsweek reports reads, "you could create Word documents that could be read only in the next week. In all cases, it would be the user, not Microsoft, who sets these policies."
I dont even think the warez kiddies will like this OS.

After Windows XP shipped, Microsoft said that the beta for the next version wouldn't start until the beta for Windows XP SP1 was completed. That will happen in mid-August, so I expect the Longhorn beta to begin sometime this fall.
Lets kill it before its out.
