is there anyway that i can use OpenBSD's way of passwding and such in my linux distro, a blowfish based passwd encryption does sound sweet.

Search for info on "pam".  There are many ways you can manipulate authentication.

or if i could get it to compile, would using OpenBSD's version of the shadow suite be good enough

Linux already does shadow passwords.

after you install the shadowsuite. from what i have heard, OpenBSD uses blowfish instead of md5, which i think would be cool for bragging rights of great encryption/*ive already installed openssl*/
