Of all the things ever despised in these forums, the thing that makes most of you go into the biggest rage is whenever anyone mentions Lindows. Why is this? Why the extreme Lindows loathing? Lindows is basically just Linux + Wine, and I've actually heard some of you Microsoft haters praise Wine before. Furthermore, of all the versions of Linux, Lindows XP is the best. So why does it bear most of the hatred?

because basically its trying to be exactly like windows, which usually translates into "it will suck". By promising windows compatibility ( a stance in which they have now backed off of) they hope to draw in new customers. however any kind of true FULL compatiblity(with windows progs) would have to compromise stability (like XP and ME with older windows programs and some DOs legacy programs) although most wont run anymore (a good thing i guess..). Basically Lindows is just a fool hardy attempt to say "me too!" but it really isnt windows. Lycoris is better than lindows..but thats just my opinion

right. lindows will be or is one of the most unstable and partially finished linux distributions out there and shitloads of morons, oh sorry, newbies are saying things like 'i want to give this linux a try, think i'll BUY lindows.'

Now firstly linux is FREE! you cannot get lindows for free, and secondly, WHEN these kiddies with an attention span of a goldfish hate lindows they will blame it on linux in general and go off back to the mindless monster of Microsoft.

Thus, the lindows 'fleece the public quick' scheme will have done more damage to the free software movement and linux in general than Microsoft ever could have.

"Lindows XP" what the fuck are you talking about. There is no "Lindows XP". Its fucking Lindows (or Lindows OS). Lindows is insecure because it logs you in as root by default. If this is supposed to be user friendly it should make a user acount for you at install.
It will supposedly go against the GPL, because it isnt open source. WINE is gpl, lindows uses wine, therefore lindows must release the source code of any part of its OS that uses WINE.

And it costs money.

those are my main reasons.

O.K. being a n00b my voice probably dont count but lets take winbloze and linbloze and put them side by side. Too me what theyre doing is copying winbloze to make a few bucks but that not my problem with that. My problem is why duplicate or imitate when you can do your own thing and possibly be greater. Now if I was @ the local geek store and had 3 os systems to choose from and they being winbloze linbloze and linux, I would have to pick linux for the simple fact is I wouldnt buy a clone of a product but ill buy a distrobution of a product or a subsidiary of a product but not a clone. And to me that's what they are trying to do is clone winbloze

I wanted a single thread listing the reasons why Lindows is bad, just like with Windows XP

Anything that is Windows for tries to be Windows must suck. Especially when they emulate the price.

CAUTION Really short conspiracy theory!:
M$ made Lindows Inc or whatever to make Lindows to make Linux look bad. And by a number of PR stunts to make it appear that M$ is anti-Linblows, we unsuspectingly defended Lindows, never knowing that it wouldn't be free and truly open-source.

read my first post!!! I said it does stuff as root.

and i had that conspiracy, but my version went that it is really a relative of bill gates who is running this. Either to compete against his brother/cousin/etc. or to help his brother/cousin/etc. in making Linux look bad (or if people actually like Lindows, to make more money for him)

Ok as evil as Lindows is, aren't we forgetting a few things?

1)Even under root, Linux would still be alot more secure then wind0ze! Surely Linux has more security optimizations then just simply being non-root by default account.

2)It's still linux, it's not wind0ze, it will likely be at least somewhat more stable then wind0ze. No matter how win wannabe they are.

3)How can Windows compatibility bring down the stability? All compatiblity(suposed)would be through an improved version of Wine/WineX. This may be hardcoded into the distro, but woulden't do anything(besides sit idle) until you actually ran a wind0ze program.

4)What if Lindows trys to be like wind0ze on the outside, but with all the Linux goodness underneath?
