Upgrade to SMF 2
« on: 11 December 2009, 11:48 »
Hi everyone!

I upgraded to SMF 2, because it was an inevitability.

And, because I'm involved in a new portal for SMF, that is only for version 2.

Of course, also that the portal I used, "MKPortal" isn't supported anymore and had an exploit.

In the process, I found out that this week's forum back-up was corrupted. So I had to use the one from November 2009.

I also solved the shitty connection issues, by disabling hostname lookups. You can now view profiles etc. without having to hit F5 a dozen times first :)

When the portal I'm a translator with is released, we have a front page again. Should be in Januari 2010 (believe me, that portal system looks a lot better than MKPortal).

Thank you all for your patience.

EDIT: WAP 2 support  ;D
Now I can do some serious foruming on my phone.

Yes, I noticed that loads of posts were missing.

What about ReactOSguy has he been deleted? It might be a good idea to send him an email explaining the situation.
This is not a Windows help forum, however please do feel free to sign up and agree or disagree with our views on Microsoft.

Oh and FUCKMicrosoft! :fu:

It was really unfortunate. I make a back-up every month, and it was really sad that the december back-up file was corrupted (at 1/3 of the SQL dump, there was an error message).
I have half of the members database of december, and ReactOSguy's e-mail was in there. So I sent the e-mail, and hopefully he will be back.

I do think we should be positive. This new version of SMF is faster than the previous one, and there will be a cool front-page in a few weeks.

This updated software seems far more sophisticated and "modern" compared to the old SMF. A working usable front page would be great as well.

Hmmm... ideal forum, Refalm. I didn't need to press refresh. The only complaint is that Chrome displays the forum differently (browser issue and not script issue).

I see why my account was deleted, your backup database was corrupt. :(

Which leads me to the point. If you want the whole front page thingamajig, you should try a PHP+MySQL blogging package (simpler and recommended but less flexible) or a PHP+MySQL script on the web (easier and more flexible) or written from scratch (harder but more flexible) that will import three recent Microsoft In The News threads (maybe you could fork MKPortal if it's open sourced).

Overall, the forum is tidier and better than the old version. It sucks to have my account deleted but that's okay since I received the job of the very first moderator on the three year old forum MicrosoftSucks.org, which was abused by porn, trolls and MS fans (I link to your site :D).

I'm very enthusiastic about a new portal for SMF that is coming out in a month. I'm in that team as a translator, I'm not that good at PHP to do anything more really.

http://www.dream-portal.net/
I will be using that.

I don't really like blogging packages like Joomla or WordPress. I like it when the forum software does all the work, and the front-page is just another shell.

Also, MicrosoftSucks.org looks pretty chaotic, but I like some of the humorous messages.
AppleSucks.org is pretty funny, because I don't like the iPhone, and pissing off iPhone users is always fun. I like Mac OS though.

Dream Portal??? Okay. I know, I told you it's simpler but less flexible to use a blogging package.
