He's offering the site to anyone willing to take it on and pay the fees, otherwise it'll die.

I am hosting multiple sites, so it's not about to disappear quite yet. But whoever remembers me here knows that I've been absent for quite a while. This is uni taking its toll on me.

I've been posting on HD occasionally, but otherwise I keep a minimal presence.

The heatedebates.com domain name is due to expire today. Since no one seems interested I am not going to renew it. The forum is still on the server however, so if anyone wants it, just ask me.

How much for the domain name?

My host, Hostmonster.com, charges $10 per year for a domain name. I use privacy protection which is an additional $5 / year.

Heated Debates is no longer accessible.

It's a shame because it has the potential to be quite a good forum, it just needs a bit more publicity.

The same is true with this place, for some reason it's failed to attract new members since moving to the new domain name which I put down to the same thing.

This is only temporary, the time to sort out a domain name issue.

it's a shame, but the world moves on.
Guess we'll all just have to facebook friend everybody and keep the discussions going that way.

I'd probably start some forum if this and heated debates was going to die, and if i thought it would actually get used but over the years, i've closed more forums from non-use than i have started. Publicity again.

Forums are dying all over the internet.  They're just not web2.0 enough, I guess.  Whereas sites like Flickr and Facebook are exploding.

Actually, an anti-Microsoft Flickr group or Facebook group might be worthwhile, if anybody is using those sites.

I actually find that its smaller niche forums that are doing quite well, where there is really only 1-2 forums talking about that specific thing. The ones I see suffering are the ones where there is hundreds of forums already on that same general topic.

I am transferring the forum to Refalm right now. He is in the process of registering the domain name, which I unlocked. I will transfer him the archives when he's done.

As for me, I hate Facebook, and deleted my account. The only web 2.0 service I liked is StumbleUpon, before it went to shit in the last few years.

I think a general topics forum would be nice, but I no longer have time to socialise on the internet, let alone maintain a community and put effort in expanding it.

Good, I don't want the forum to die even if it only gets a few posts a week.

A few controversial threads at an electronics forum I post at have been locked recently so I think I'll recommend Heated Debates to people who want to discuss that kind of thing. I hope the moderator and administrator will allow me to promote it because it won't be competing with their forum and they've already indicated they don't want heated political discussions on their forum by locking such threads.

+1 to worker and AJ. That's all true.
Maybe a facebook presence is the way to go for stop-microsoft.org if only to get a bigger group coming here.
