Windows Longhorn!!!???
Fett101:
Windows hasn't gone through a really major gui change since they put that taskbar thing there. And from the few looks Ive had of Mac Os, they havn't had major Gui changes either. Just sprucing up, tweaks under the hood, and additions not readily seen.
It's easy to claim a new OS is just the old when with a theme when all ya can do is look at it.
xyle_one:
my guess is that longhorn will be xp, with all the updates & patches, plus some extra "security" features that will inevitably lead to someone deleting your entire hard drive from an html link, or just by you hovering over a file. it will only have one gui to choose from, but they will finally use multiple desktops. it will take 5 gigs to install and require at least 2 gig ddr 2700 & a pentium 5 4.5ghz to even start it. of course you will have to buy a brand new windows license everytime you upgrade the memory or add a hard drive, and that will cost an extra 3000 a year because you will be supporting multiple licenses under one name...dont even think of using anything besides windows media player for media, or microsoft paint for graphics. if they detect soemthing like photoshop on "their" computer, you will be shut down and forced to pay a shitload of money for violating their eula. fuck windows. fuck longhorn.
and uh, mac os has changed dramatically from system 9 to X. im sure someone could explain better than i the difference between classic & osX.
TheQuirk:
Meh, Longhorn is supposed to have a SQL-based file-system, which is really "neat". Of course, they promised that before, but I think they'll pull through this time.
Calum:
what is this bollocks? why start a new thread about something so unnewsworthy?
it's just going to be XP with more spyware, similar to what xyle said, and fettucine fred, i think you are either right or wrong, but you know, there's no point reinventing the wheel just like there's no point in rebuying any microsoft product.
Doctor V:
I'm under the impression that longhorn is going to be alot like XP, but it will be TCPA compliant. M$ has said that longhorn will require new hardware. I don't think they are just talkign about hardware with higher specs, it will require a fritz chip. And yes, that will give a heckuvalot of control over your computer to M$ and various other big brothers. In the name of "security".
