Well i finally took the plunge, after a few months of dual booting with windows and mandrake (used to be Red Hat 7.3 before drake) i am now totally windows free, not a drop of it anywhere on my computer.

I can tell ya it feels damn good

Red Hat 8 is sweet as, looks so slick lookin. As usual ADSL is working nicely due to my eth0 being detected on install.

Agreed, Red Hat 8 rocks.  Its not as easy as Mandrake, but much better in the long run.  As for ASDL, I already had Redhat installed before I got my ASDL modem.  Hooked up the modem, opened up Mozilla, went to the web page I wanted to.  Easy as that, didn't have to do anything.  Still have win2K on another partition cause of the gf, but I'm working on that one.

Here's a question. Why is it better in the long run? Mandrake has shown me rock solid stability, and a great deal of application support, not to mention ease of use. In fact the original Mandrake was based on Red Hat. Both are based on the same kernel and use a great deal of the same applications. If you are more experienced with the command line, Mandrake can do everything there just as well. Mandrake wasnt always the best linux distro, but especially with the last 2 releases, 8.2 and 9, it has really proved itself.

You can honestly tell me that using say Mozilla 1 on Red Hat linux using kernel 2.4.19 and kde3 is better than Mozilla 1 on Mandrake using kernel 2.4.19 and kde3 or SuSe, or Slackware, or any number of other linux distros.

Doogee:
Well the stability part is debatable.

Theres just less Bugs in red hat, nuff said. In mandrake they load bullshit kernel headers etc. i dont know this means but it stuffed me up with vmware and winex. I just find red hat more polished, less buggy etc, thats about it really.

Doctor V:
Red Hat just seems to run more smoothly than mandrake.  Runs a bit faster.  and generally has more up to date packages.  It also has slightly better multi language support.  Its much easier to switch between languages.  I also couldn't get plugger to work for the life of me in mandrake, but with red hat it workd fine.  Granted that could be my fault.  I'm not saying that Red Hat is way better than mandrake, its mostly just a collection of small things.
