First of all, congratulations on your new Linux box! Now, what kind of modem do you have? If it's a PCI winmodem, then it propably won't work. However you could go to http://www.linmodems.org and see if you can get it to work with open source drivers.

If it's a hardware modem you're talking about, then it's almost certainly supported and it'll work flawlessly. USB modems are also partially supported.

Now if your modem IS supported go to Mandrake control center in KDE or GNOME and set up your connection. I don't know about AOL though

Is it a serial modem, PCI or a USB one? Need more info..

Why don't you give google a try? Do a google search for your modem and linux support.

Internal modems are usually PCI modems. If it's connected through a PCI slot then it's a PCI modem. It could also be an ISA one. You could also visit Mandrake's site and search their hardware database for supported hardware.

Does your modem connect to a serial port or a USB port? If you got a dial tone then I would say you have a 100% chance of being able to make it work. But probably a 0% chance of getting connected to AOL, unless of course they have recently released a Linux version of their software.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...
