ok, i'm not a console gamer, nor do i like consoles (sorry, no real reason for it, just don't like the controls. all my gaming is done on pc, but anyway...), but my friends who do seem to like it a lot *cringe*. they keep trying to get me to play 'halo' on it cause i'm awesome in first person shooters, but i haven't so far...

from the hardware standpoint, xbox is the best console out. acutally, i shouldn't say console, because it isn't a console: it's a pc, but its processor is faster, graphics card (nvidia i think) is better, ect..

from the games view, i've been seeing a lot of games that are "xbox-only" and i'm losing confidence in the thought of M$ failing in the console world...

Its easy to say that the xbox has the best hardware, so it must be the best, but you must remember that the ps2 was released a year before the xbox was released. This meant that MS had more time to make the machine more powerful. Besides hardware has absolutely nothing to do with how good a system is, it only matters what you do with that hardware. I still consider the ps1 the best video game console of all time because it has more good games than any other system. The ps2 has great games that are exclusive to it also, like Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy, and Tekken. Microsoft has a long way to go before they control the game market.

That's not even considering that raw MHZ and raw number crunching does not equal speed. For all we know, the "superior" hardware of the X-box may be less effective as a whole, then the "inferior" PS2 hardware. That, and the Wind0ze code injected into the box.

If you ported a game from the Super Nintendo to the PC, I believe that you would need a 486 to run it good. A 486 has much more powerful hardware then the SNES, yet the SNES is far more optimal with using the power it has.

This rule of thumb probably still applies with todays consoles.
