i love deleting windows
Master of Reality:
i love getting to type in format c: in the DOS prompt, every time i do it gives my great pleaseure.... But then i find out that redhat cant be installed on a machine with only 16 MB of RAM (of course without graphics) and i have to install fucking windows again because i dont have any other OS to install. Does anyone know how much RAM redhat needs to be installed (without a GUI or anything graphic)?

I must admit the lowest-spec PC I've installed any recent distros of linux onto is 32MB memory. RedHat did mention that I didn't have much RAM, but left it at that and let me get on with it.
I do however always use the text-mode install - have you tried that? Maybe it won't install because it can't run the graphical installer on such a small amount of RAM?
Alternatively, try an older distro of RedHat - 5.0 should do it (you get the added bonus of being able to install in "Redneck" mode!). You can upgrade the kernel and other relevent bits later.

hmmm... i guess i will have to dig up some old 72 pin memory chips and get to at least 32 mb. (i'm trying to put it on my old comp.)

IanC, no the nongraphical install comes up automatically if the graphical one won't run. i know because that's what i used before i applied the fix for my video card.
if yr memory is low, why not try some other distro of linux?
there are plenty, and each one has a different priority. for example i saw one the other day (Kirix? or something like that?) that was dedicated to internet security, and there are bound to be some that are driven by the need to install on low memory computers... don't know which ones in particular though..
