Rhapsody!
« on: 17 September 2003, 03:23 »
I recently got a hold of Rhapsody for X86 and PPC.  I installed it on VPC.... its great, but very slow.  Unfortunately the only "extra" PC i have has no HD, so no x86 tests.  But I am gonna install the PPC one on my 600MHz iBook (probably this weekend).  Rhapsody is really cool.  We shall see how cool it is in full speed now.

Where can I get the x86 Rhapsody? I've been looking for it for ages!

good luck getting it to run on an iBook. Rhapsody was around when the PowerBook 3400 was the current 'book. I'd be surprised if it's able to startup because of the difference in the new world and old world ROMs. I'll bet that Rhapsody is gonna work best on 3400s, Power Mac 9600s, and MAYBE beige G3s

the all mighty Jimmy was correct.  I don't have a mac old enough to run it on PPC.  Time to scavange for an extra HD.

what kind you need? I may have something that'll work. I've got several old 1GB IDE drives laying around. hit me up on AIM and I'll see what I can rustle up

UPDATE!

Rhap DR2 is halfway on its feet on a PowerBook 3400. The OS begins booting, and gets to the desktop, but some parts of it won't run. I'll bet it's a lack of RAM. 32MB is the minimum, and I've only got 48MB on there. With 64, it's probably much smoother.

More to come!

OK, I received at last (after three days) the disc image. But how do I burn .dmg images on a PC?

Find a Macintosh?
Not sure... never even attempted that one.

I do have access to Macintosh computers at school (which makes me partly a Mac user), but they are protected with strict permissions. I doubt I'll even be able to execute the burner software, let alone copy the huge file to the hard drive.

do they run OSX?
if so then Disc Copy in Applications/Utilities will do it.  If you have an understanding teacher or lab person or wutever... tell them that this interest is purely educational.  (which it is)

Some of them run OS X, but now I think of it, the only ones that do are the eMacs, the education-only ones with no CD burner.

I thought there was a way to burn .dmg files on non-Mac systems. Aren't .dmg's just .iso images?

i have no idea.  why don't you try.  Just rename it .iso and burn it.  If its any correlation.  The built in burning software can burn iso's as well.  So they may be the same thing.
