All Things Microsoft > Microsoft as a Company

Ugh

How does that show M$ has advantages over Linux? The only thing you can do with it is play a few more games. So what then, if you use 90% of your computing on linux, you have to pay thrugh the nose to run a crapy OS just to play a few dumb games?

Not anarchistic, practical.  :D

But seriously, piracy is a joke. The internet is anarchy and that's the way it should be.

I have said this before, but it seems to me that even the most draconian piracy messures will be cracked or bypased. How can you truely outlaw something as effemiral as data transfer and bits and bytes?

A company now a days has to truely gain the consumers confidence and devotion if it expect's to get paid, and M$ doesn't do this so why should they get any money?

They got a monopoly, I don't like their shitty crap, but I want to use it to do this one ity bity thing, fuck them I'll d-load my own copy and live my life without the added expense or hastle.

Why pay for something crappy just cuz you don't have to? It's not stealing. What's more unethical, a company that makes crappy software and forces it on it's users by eleminating all other choices (i.e. monopoly), or a user deciding not to pay because he only needs a fraction of the usability and the monopolistic company has eleminated all other viable choices?

Buisness-consumer relationships are going to change drastically. People are going to actually WANT to support a company by purchasing their products, because that company simply will never be able to stop them from just d-loading or burning a copy.

Call it piracy, call it unethical, whatever. Fact is, if I see a rich fat cat drop a $20 bill on the sidewalk and Im starving to death, I won't think twice of weather or not I should keep the money. Same goes for this new market.

Despite what may be "wrong" or "right" legaly, the new market will be ruled by what's "wrong" or "right" naturaly.

well, all of that post is true in my opinion, but i would like to say that to make M$ lose its monopoly, we need to boycott M$' products altogether just like jonathan said above, and VoidMain and several others have said in the past.

The fact we are forced to use their products to an extent shows that developers often develop only for windows, or for windows and mac only, but if an alternative OS really was widely competitive it would successfully allow people not to be forced to use windows for ANYTHING.

At the moment, when someone raises a prickly "can linux do this?" question, the answers are as often as not about why linux can do what it does do more stable than windows, or even worse, of the "i don't need to do that on my machine, so why would linux need that capability?" variety.

Sadly, many of the "why doesn't linux do this?" questions are not OS questions at all, and often the real answer is "because Adobe/Macromedia/whoever haven't released a linux version yet, because there's no perceived market."

As soon as people DO start boycotting M$ in large numbers, and don't kid yrself that using illegal copies counts, the market WILL be perceived and we might see some real movement in this area. Until then, more of the same. It's fake anarchy at best.

Oh, while i do have a few copies of windows that are totally as illegal as anybody's, I have a legal copy as well, and that's the one i have installed (yes i am one of those dual booters, with tons of windows style hardware i might add) on my windows side. I certainly don't have a copy of XP though, before you jump to any conclusions!

In this case I agree with your initial argument, but do you really believe abuse, and obscenities, make your argument more valid?

X11 is a UNIX nerd, he dosn't use windwoz. As I understand it he's on WineX and dual boot with 2000 which he only touches for games. It's also a stolen copy, so he dosn't support M$.

Abuse and obscenitie is fine by me   :D

A unix....  person not a n3rd, i must admit MS-DOS 6.00 and Windows 3.1 are good i have that installed and Windows 98 on another box, which i use to find bugs...  At its not stolen... its...

Internet+KaZaA=Anarcy
Pity i have... Removed KaZaA (it wont run in Wine X)
Due to the fact that it has Distributed Computing Software... And personnally, the www.distributed.net
client is enough for me. Anyway, i do use windows sometimes for Games, Development. But when i get UNREAL working in Linux, i will......   Switch
