Windows ME is just about the worst choice for a server you'll ever find. If you really must use Windoze, then you should at least use Windows 2000.

lol he means they dont SUPPORT it. Officially. My advice, support isn't necessary at all. Just get together an old computer and put on a copy of Redhat or Mandrake.

I installed Apache on Windows 95 a while back.  It wasn't pretty.  :D   And 95 = ME in lousyness for that job.

As for ISP support for Linux, you only need it if you have one of those USB "modems" that some give out.  If it's ethernet, you'll be okay.

I still hate the idea of calling cable NICs "modems".

Go for the popular LAMP connection.

Linux
Apache
MySQL
PHP/Perl/Python

HW that doesn't support Linux isn't meant for server-use.

Who cares if your ISP doesn't support Linux offially. Mine doesn't. There're only a few who do.

But it doesn't mean that your internet connection won't work on Linux.

I got a dialup modem to work in Slackware via KPPP.  Not very hard.

I've got a null modem working in Linux tru pppd. Not very hard either

So if null modems are easy, connecting to an ISP who has no Linux support at all should be pretty easy too

Getting a modem to work on Linux is a breeze. Getting a NIC card to work on Linux is a breeze.

Fuck your ISP. Those who run Linux shall inherit the PC.
