But microsoft do put a lot of money and research into bringing these consoles out. They don't make as much money out of the consoles once the prices drop, the profits really come from the peripherals and games. Yes they do make a lot of profit out of it  buy why should microsoft have to let third party companies nick their profit? These companies don't bear any of the risk involved if they design their product after the console is released and the market is stable.

You DO realize that makes about as much sense as letting Microsoft kill off all the floppy, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and hard disk drive manufacturers because it "nicks their profits"?  Bear in mind that the XBox is a miracle of marketing: not ONE hardware component is actually theirs.  So why give them the right to kill off third-party vendors?

even if you're renting you've got more rights than if you're using windows.

The fact that Microsoft did not produce any of the hardware is irrelevant. They produced the system, why can't they decide which hardware is compatible with it. If you buy their hardware you put put up with it. No one thought it was illegal that the N64 couldn't use CD's...did they want CD manufacturers to lose profits?

I don't think anyone would have complained if the original PS1 had the same sort of thing.

this is another one of those 'blame microsoft' situations . It doesnt really matter if they didnt make any of the hardware themselves. When you buy an OEM PC, they just get parts from everyone else and slap on their casing and logo. Samething with Xbox.

Hardware you buy is yours.  You don't license it like software.

You might say that, some say you don't licence software, that it is the wrong thing to do. However it certainly doesn't look like you don't with hardware and software, it looks to me like you do what ever the hell you want.

Of course, Sony is nixing ALL third party peripherals.  Which means that you are stuck with the boomerang design for it.

Why be so negative about the "boomerang" controllers?

They look pretty nice to me, if they're comfortable then I really couldn't care how they look. ;)

It's revenge really.

I was a fan of the xbox from when it was first announced. I had to take all kinds of goading from sony fanboys who though that the Duke controller was too big for their tiny, fragile hands.

What goes around comes around.

Fair enough, but I've tried the Duke controller, I have small hands, and it was a nightmare!

if i buy a pc from the shop down the road, one he made. he used parts from other companies. but he doesnt force me to buy a seahgate hdd as a second one, a qtec router and a pinnacle tv card. i usually buy parts that are slightly cheaper because i dont mind if somthing looks crap, or has a bit of swarf hanging out of a screw hole. if it does the job, its fine. ok i did buy a dead nice case. but it was cheap.
Windows XP Service Pack 2. Because we couldn't be arsed the first time.

Windows 98 Second Edition. Look, now you don't need that bloody CD to install new hardware.

Windows Vista. Even your computer knows you have a small penis.

Windows Blackcomb. We are planning the OS after Vista, which is allready a year late.

Windows ME, the Marmite Operating System.

XP Mobile. Take your errors with you.

Its worth spending a bit more money on a case because thats what everyone sees every day.

Plus it probably boosts resale value.
