Windows Mail
« on: 10 October 2005, 04:50 »
Outlook Express is going out - Windows Mail is coming in. The name change also brings with it a set of changes, among other things the UI and a "Search as you type" thingie. Tha last thing, where have we seen that before? Oh yeah, Apple among other companies made that feature popular!.

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2005/10/09/outlook-express-renamed-as-windows-mail/

I think the new look stinks, as did the new look for Office, if you remember.

Funny, last I heard MS was going to drop real email clients from the OS bundle and point the mail api towards hotmail.

Change the name, change the UI, add irrelevant features: that's fixing things the Microsoft way.  :D

They're rebranding everything to "Windows".

ie MSN Messenger to Windows Live Messenger

It's all mind tricks on the regular home user "oh, this is the windows one".
Windows [n.]
A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.

What's next?! Windows Browser? Windows Explorer HA j/k...

Windows X instead of DirectX??

Seems to me as though they're scared of losing the name recognition of Windows... WHY?! For God's sake Windows (even for retards) is the most distrusted OS name in the industry. They probably think that people will get scared of using a Microsoft OS not named Windows. They underestimate their users, patronize them by having "Designed for Windows" stickers on every computer shipped. I'm getting a DEFINiTE feeling that Vista will flop like ME. I've installed and used BETA2... it only installed on 2 of the 6 computers I attempted and didn't even install Office2003.

Looks like they have an up hill battle for increasing security outside of a Network OS... Every program I opened that was not Microsoft a pop up appeared asking if I was sure that I wanted to use it.

OSes should be treated like we should be treating politicians: elect the ones who don't want to be in power. Microsoft isn't a software company though, all they are is a monopoly company. I like that. That should be someone's signature. Ok sorry for the rant heh.

... they'd have to do Window$ explorer for the file manager and Window$ Internet Explorer for IE ... and while they're at it they should change the start button to Start Window$ ... and My Window$ Computer ... don't you just hate that fucking 'My' prefix. My Computer ... My Documents ... My Bullshit ... well whose computer could it be someone elses ? Of course it's your fucking computer ! Maybe it's Blll Gates telling you it's actually 'my' computer as in Bill Gates' computer :D They should change 'em all to Bill's Computer cuz Bill ownz your ass !!!

Haha, "His Computer".
Why couldn't they just do it like the GNOME people... 'Computer', simple. Noone would be confused, H_TeXMeX_H and some others (me) would be happy...
The "My Music" and "My Videos"... They're the worst... So annoying, I always try to delete them folders and create simple "music" and "video" folders.

In my home folder I always create a "stuff" folder and then "music", "video", "sources", "websites", "programming", "crap" etc. folders. I could call them "My Music", "My Videos", "My Sources", "My Websites", "My Programming", "My Crap", but feck that.

I don't even have 'computer' on my Desktop. Too much clutter, I just have 'Macintosh HD'. If I want to access the disk, I can just click on the icon. OSX UI rules.

Internet Explorer 7 tries desperatly to look like Opera, and Windows Mail is some kind of undead evil twin brother of Thunderbird.

What's next?
