suse is *not* proprietary, regardless of whether or not you have to pay them to get it.

ya i realize that now. And of course you dont have to pay for it no matter what. Just have to pay for the iso/cd

Well the point is that even if they chose not to make their software available for free download that wouldn't necessarily mean it was proprietary. The GPL doesn't require that they make their software available free of charge.

yes, i see, Suse is still open source.

Actually isn't yast/yast2 proprietary closed source? Since that utility is pretty much what makes SuSe SuSe then I would have to say that makes SuSe proprietary (if yast indeed is proprietary that is).
